according to the army’s spokesperson, who also reported that 96 Boko Haram fighters were killed.
General Issakh Acheikh said on Sunday that they didn’t specify where the operation took place or provide more details. On national television, he shared that the army had also injured 11 Boko Haram members and captured weapons and equipment.
He reassured the public that the situation is under control and that efforts continue to track down any remaining fighters as part of Operation Haskanite, a mission to drive Boko Haram out of the Lake Chad area.
This region has faced repeated attacks from groups like Boko Haram and the Islamic State in West Africa since the insurgency began in northeast Nigeria in 2009, spreading to western Chad. Around 40 Chadian soldiers were killed in a base attack in the Lake Chad region last month, leading interim President Mahamat Idriss Deby to consider withdrawing Chad from a multinational security force.
